Today, I ran a 2-kilometre race at Northala Fields Junior Parkrun. It was a new challenge for me because I had never run the full 2-kilometre distance before. I was feeling a bit nervous before the start, but I was also excited to give it a try. As I began running, I could feel myself getting a little tired, but I kept pushing forward and tried to keep my focus. I knew it wasn’t going to be easy, but I was determined to do my best.
During the run, my pace was 4:06 per kilometre, and the distance was exactly 2 kilometres. Usually, the junior runs I do are slightly shorter at around 1.93 kilometres, so this was a bit longer than what I’m used to. I noticed there were a few children ahead of me blocking the path at times, which made it harder to keep a steady pace. But I didn’t let it stop me. I kept weaving through when I could and tried to stay focused on reaching the finish line.
When I finished the race, I checked my time and was pleased to see that I had completed the run in 8 minutes and 10 seconds. This was only 9 seconds off my personal best, which felt like a big achievement since this was the first time I had run this longer distance. Even though I didn’t beat my personal best today, I was still really proud of how well I ran.
One of the most exciting parts of today’s run was that it was my first time ever finishing in first place! That felt amazing and gave me a huge boost of confidence. I’ve worked hard to improve my running, and it feels great to see the results. It’s not always about the time you get; sometimes, just finishing strong and giving your best effort is what matters most.
Looking ahead, I feel motivated to keep practising and improving. I know that every run teaches me something new, whether it’s about pacing, staying focused, or pushing through tiredness. Today was a big step forward for me, and I’m excited to see how much faster I can get in the future. For now, I’m just really happy with how the race went and proud of myself for trying something new!
