Rickmansworth Parkrun 15th February 2025

Today, I took part in a 5-kilometre run at Rickmansworth Parkrun. Since I had never run this course before, I wasn’t sure about the route, so I had to follow the person ahead of me. Luckily, they were running at a good pace and weren’t too slow, which helped me keep a steady rhythm throughout the race. It felt exciting to run in a new location, but also a bit challenging because I didn’t know what to expect.

My pace for the run was 4:14 per kilometre, and my watch recorded a total distance of 5.05 kilometres. The course had a nice atmosphere, with lots of runners taking part. Everyone was pushing themselves, and the energy around me made me want to run even faster. It’s always great to see so many people running together, whether they are trying to set a personal best or just enjoying the experience.

During the race, there was a girl running near me who seemed determined to keep up with me. At first, we were running side by side, and I could tell she was trying to overtake me. I pushed myself to stay ahead, but she didn’t give up. In the final stretch, she managed to get ahead of me and crossed the finish line before I did. Even though I wanted to beat her, I have to admit that she ran really well, and it was fun to have some friendly competition.

Before this run, my personal best (PB) for a 5K was 21:47. I really wanted to improve my time, so I focused on keeping a strong pace throughout the race. By the time I crossed the finish line, I had set a new PB of 21:24! That means I shaved 23 seconds off my previous best, which I’m really happy about. Every small improvement makes a big difference, and it’s a great feeling to see progress in my running.

Overall, I enjoyed the race and was pleased with my performance. Running in a new place was a good challenge, and racing against other runners kept me motivated. Even though I didn’t finish ahead of the girl I was competing with, I’m still proud of my new PB. Next time, I’ll try to push even harder and see if I can improve my time again!
